Charles Hayward (Max Irons), an ex-spy now working as a private investigator, is enlisted to look into the grisly murder of the wealthy de Haviland family patriarch. As he uncovers deep-rooted enmity among the de Havilands, Hayward finds his list of suspects is quite lengthy and does not exclude his former lover (Stefanie Martini), who is also the victim's granddaughter and the person who asked him to solve the crime in the first place.
